NASHVILLE, TN (APRIL 4, 2025) – Hot off her first #1 Billboard Bluegrass Album, Let It Burn, award-winning bluegrass and country singer Kristy Cox, releases her compelling rendition of “The Wrong Girl” first made popular by Lee Ann Womack to radio. The country classic turned bluegrass hit, is accompanied by an official music video, premiering exclusively on Bluegrass Today. WATCH BELOW AND LISTEN HERE.
“I have been a huge Lee Ann Womack fan since I was a little girl and have always loved the song, ‘The Wrong Girl’,” shares Cox. “I’ve always wondered how it would sound as a bluegrass tune, and Jerry Salley, my producer, helped make that a reality. I had so much fun recording this, and I hope you enjoy listening to it, as well.”
Jerry Salley, A&R/creative director of Billy Blue Records, stated, “For as long as I have known her, Kristy has always had a keen sense of great songs and song selection. When she brought ‘The Wrong Girl‘ into the mix for her most recent album Let It Burn, it had been a few years since I had heard the tune. But, I knew immediately we could turn it into an uptempo, grassy ‘Kristy’ song, that would fit her stellar vocal style perfectly. Co-written by two of Nashville’s top songwriters, Pat McLaughlin and Liz Rose, Kristy recognized that this simple, yet perfectly written song, resonates with every woman who sadly witnesses a man overlooking true love right in front of his eyes.”
The release of “The Wrong Girl” follows Cox’s seventh Toyota Golden Guitar Award win, after taking home Bluegrass Recording of the Year for Let It Burn. As she continues to make her mark in bluegrass music, tune in to bluegrass radio nationwide to hear the new single, and stay connected with Kristy at www.kristycox.com or on social media for the latest updates and exclusive content.
