SALT LIFE ANNOUNCES SURFERS KAI AND DAX MCPHILLIPS TO JOIN THE SALT LIFE TEAM
ELDEST SONS OF CURRENT SALT LIFE AMBASSADOR COLIN MCPHILLIPS ARE ALSO ASKED TO JOIN THE 2015 ROSTER
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (January 13, 2015) - Salt Life, one of today’s leading lifestyle brands, announces brothers Kai and Dax McPhillips as the two newest team members of the 2015 Roster of Salt Life Brand Ambassadors. Kai and Dax McPhillips are the eldest sons of 3x Long Board World Champion and professional surfer Colin McPhillips, who joined the Salt Life Team as a brand ambassador in 2013. Kai and Dax have grown up with the ocean as their playground and intend to continue to follow in the footsteps of their father and wear the Salt Life name proudly.
A Southern California native, 12-year-old Kai McPhillips is a competitive short boarder, longboarder, SUP surfer, and SUP racer. Extremely passionate about his short boarding endeavors, Kai often competes in prestigious Surfing America Prime events, as well as National Scholastic Surfing Association contests. Kai is also a strong force in the standup paddle world where he ranks in the top of his age group at infamous events such as The Battle of the Paddle.
Kai is also a proud member of the Shorecliffs Middle School surf team, representing his school in which he attends as a straight A student. Kai's passion for the ocean matches that of Salt Life's and the year ahead is sure to bring much travel and endless amounts of surfing, both fun and competitive.
10-year-old Dax McPhillips is also a native of Southern California where he quickly went from walking to surfing waves with his dad at San Onofre. In more recent years, Dax has been competing in the National Scholastic Surfing Association in the shortboard division, has made mulitiple finals and has been named one of the top ranked kids in both SUP surfing and SUP racing after winning several prominent events.
Dax has also recently discovered a love for fishing that has brought many adventures as well as a recent snag of a 30lb. yellowtail. Dax looks forward to wearing the Salt Life name as he prepares for an exciting year ahead full of contests, travel, and without a doubt, a lot of fun in the ocean.
Salt Life's team manager Larry Laska says he is proud to have a younger generation representing Salt Life and loves the passion Kai and Dax have for both the ocean and the sport of surfing.
"Colin has added a lot to our Salt Life team and we cannot wait to have Kai and Dax on board as well! They are both such natural athletes and we are excited for them to represent Salt Life and what it means to live the 'Salt Life.'"
Aside from their father being a positive influence in their professional endeavors, Kai and Dax McPhillips also have their uncle, legendary surfer Phil Edwards, to look up to. Edwards is the first to testify to their natural abilities and exciting futures ahead.
"Kai and Dax are amazing young watermen, having been exposed to surfing since Day 1. They continually impress me with their talent and enthusiasm for the sport. Best of all, they're always having fun -- that's important. Watching these guys grow is like watching destiny unfold. They're naturals."
Dax and Kai McPhillips will join Salt Life on their upcoming team trip to Mexico later this month.
